Fishing activity is normally confined from 0.5 mile to 5 miles offshore, rarely 10 miles, central Algeria between Dellys and Cherchel, in Western areas between Tenes and Ghazaouet and eastern area between Bejaia and Annaba are the main fishing areas. All the commercial ports have small traditional fishing fleets. Normal fishing vessels are 20m craft.
