For vessels operating in Australia waters after lifting bunkers, the following taxes apply:
+ Excise Duty charge at AUD 0.412 / L as of 01 August 2018 = 350 USD/MT

+ 10% GST (Good and Service Tax) for domestic fuel supplied. ( reimbursable )

Immigration
All crew have to obtain a subclass 400 visa (approx.. 120 AUD) prior to arrival to work in Australia, the majority can apply on line with LOI from the agent and a letter of employment from the company. This has only 6 months validity, but may be extended (been done up to 3 times – 18 months). Visas should be granted within 14 working days. Agent requires scan of bio-metric page from passport, estimated date of arrival and position onboard vessel, also agent needs to be advised which embassy they will be visiting.
Crew from non-ETA countries must apply for the visa at the Australian embassy in country of residence – this can take 21 days – Indonesia, Philippines, Russia, Egypt, Ukraine, Indian, Azerbaijani, and Mexicans and a few other minority countries.
Any management visiting the vessel need to have a Subclass 651 visa – this entitles them to visit on business for the purpose of meetings – normally granted within 24 / 48 hours.
Any crew arriving with the vessel and departing on arrival need only apply for MCV (Maritime Crew Visa) on line prior to arrival – this is free.

Maritime crew with the exception of certain positions (Master, Ch. Eng, Ch. Off) will have to depart the vessel and they will be replaced by MUA – Australian Seamen.
