CLO is the community Liaison Officer.

It may be part of an environment Impact assessment ( EIA ) or simply a proactive decision from Client to better control their interactions with local stakeholders in a specific country. Community management service consist generally in contracting a dedicated supplier to properly communicate about a new project ( seismic survey for example ) and find solutions to allow all parties to work.

In some african countries, it refers to the identification of fishermen communities upstream,  split responsibilities between parties, process set up / regular control during operations, and prepare beforehand a clear grievance mechanism .

In Norway, fishing long liners and seismic vessels surveys are not compatible in the same area at the same time. Activity has to be organized.

Norwegian Petroleum directorate (NPD) delivers permits. Fishery directorate ( FD) is providing input to permit application. Institute of Marine Research (IMR) can provide specific restrictions applying.

SAM- X is a tool gathering information about restrictions and projects on going.
